Sometimes you see a preview for a movie, and they make it look really good in the 1-2 minutes that you're watching the preview, but when you actually see the movie, it's a letdown because all of the good parts were in the preview. Vantage Point isn't like that. No, in a way, it's worse. In this case, you see a good chunk of the movie in the preview. Don't get me wrong, Vantage Point isn't necessarily bad. It's well-acted and the plot is actually well thought out. It's just, different in the way that the whole thing is presented. Read on... The premise behind the movie is that the President is in Spain at a meeting of various world leaders on the issue of terrorism, with the U.S. putting an emphasis on fostering peace in the Middle East or some such. As the President steps up to the podium, he's shot, and pandemonium breaks out. Soon after, there are explosions, and the Secret Service goes into action trying to figure out what's going on. Keep in mind that this beginning sequence is only about 15-20... Read More »

Not sure if I heard this one during the Superbowl or not, but the music got my attention just a few minutes ago when I saw the commercial (again?). If you haven't noticed yet, there's a pattern in the songs I've been posting about. They all tend to be of the Electronic genre :) Anyway, this one is called Genesis by the artist Justice.... How ironic. Yes, "The Postal Service" is the name of the group that did the song currently being used in the UPS Whiteboard campaign. Anyway, the name of the song is "Such Great Heights." The lyrics are mostly meh, but the tune's pretty catchy. Enjoy!... Read More »

The last few years Cadillac has been using a famous Led Zeppelin song in their commercials. From what I've read, the Break Through campaign started during Superbowl 2003 and ended just recently. Oddly enough, I hear Led Zeppelin is going on tour again. If you've never heard Led Zeppelin, you might want to check out some of their stuff, they have some really great songs. Myself, I have exactly 12 favorites, but they've covered several genres in their time, so there's probably something for everyone.... Read More »

[UPDATE] At the bottom of this post I've included an iTunes link to the original version of the song. I don't think it's anywhere near as good, but someone may like it :-\ [UPDATE] I guess they were allowing people to download the song for a while and eventually stopped. Too much bandwidth being leeched? Regardless, it can still be found at stereogum.com by doing a search on their site for "weird dekoder remix" which should bring up an archived post that has a link to the mp3.Just happened to see the new Mountain Dew Green Label Art commercial a few minutes ago. Great music! A quick search revealed the name of the song and author as Weird (Dekoder Remix) by Menomena. It's certainly quirky, but me likey! I have yet to find out where this song can be purchased, but you can listen to it in its entirety at the artist's MySpace page through the player they have embedded on the right side of the page: http://myspace.com/menomena Read More »

Okay, so I got my 360 back, ermm, a few weeks ago (yeah, I'm slow blogging like that). My little bundle of joy came in the same type of white coffin (box) that I sent it off in, however, it was a different system than the one I sent off, and the one I got back had an earlier manufacturing date than the one I sent in, which was dated October 2006. That's thing number 1 that has me cringing. Thing number 2 that has me worrying is that every so often the disc drive makes this noise as if something has slipped (laser assembly perhaps?). Nothing bad has happened as a result yet, but I'm certainly keeping my ears open. Thing number 3 that has me irked is that they sent me back a system that had obviously been in a smoker's home. Either that or the technician who fixed it was in dire need of having liquified tobacco mainlined intravenously as an alternative to the pack-an-hour he was probably... Read More »

I'm really starting to look forward to this game. The latest in the Force Unleashed series of interviews was posted a few days ago on GameTrailers. In it, they describe the three different engines at work that add an unprecedented amount of realism to the virtual world of The Force Unleashed. The Havok, Euphoria, and DMM (Digital Molecular Matter) engines provide, respectively, rigid/soft-body physics, bio-mechanical AI (A.K.A. computer character's concern for their own well-being), and material behavior such as glass breaking, wood splintering, metal bending, organic substances bowing under pressure, etc. My only reservation is the fact that every Star Wars game is always hyped and always looks and sounds great, until it's released, at which point we all find out that the game is a bit of a flop. However, I must say, this looks very promising thus far.... Read More »
